Following high school, David joined the army and served as a Cavalry Scout. After his time in the army, he taught himself web development by reading HTML books on his lunch break at Home Depot, then picked up C#. In the early 2000s when David started his career as a developer and Systems Engineer, his responsibilities ran the gamut from programming to infrastructure, and even included operations. Over the next decade David used positions in small and large businesses – the Department of Defense, USSOCOM, the Intelligence Community, and the Department of Veterans Affairs to transition from engineering into specializing in Information Security. Later, he went back to school and earned his degree in Information Systems Security.
Away from work, David enjoys dissecting software and helping developers to better understand, and create resilient applications. In his local community, he is President of the Charleston ISSA chapter; is a Red Team member on PCDC, and he has developed and managed the CTF competition for bSides Charleston.
Despite the intense nature of his work, David possesses an often self-directed dry wit, which neither diminishes, nor negates the magnitude of his accomplishments. He is a family man, who enjoys occasionally blogging, and the challenge of gaming and woodworking. He’s also been known to show appropriate appreciation for good whiskey.
